Being a traffic cop doesn’t make you the most popular person in South Africa, and we all like to make jokes about how they’re on the rampage looking for their Christmas bonuses at this time of the year.
Cool, but remember that they also have to deal with dickheads like this, and they also stop people driving around whilst over the limit.
This one reportedly took place on the N12 in Potchefstroom, as News24 reports:
Road Traffic Management Corporation spokesperson Simon Zwane says the assailant was subsequently arrested on Monday, but is not clear on whether or not the man has appeared in court.
Zwane isn’t entirely sure of the exact details that lead to the attack, but says based on the video evidence, it seems the motorist wasn’t happy that the traffic officer was enforcing the law and holding onto the motorist’s licence.
Yeah, he wasn’t at all happy.
Subsequent to the video being widely shared, the wheels of justice started turning:
“We are aware of the video and we fully condemn such behaviour. It is unacceptable for anyone to treat a traffic officer in that manner,” Zwane told News24 on Tuesday.
“He has been arrested. He was arrested, yesterday. He actually should have been arrested on the day [Sunday] the incident occurred.
“Motorists should behave, respect the road and respect those who are enforcing the rules.
“If you have a grievance with a traffic officer, their cars are marked – with numbers – so you can file a complaint with the head office,” he added.
Go ahead and file a complaint, or slip a buffalo their way to make the problem disappear (everyone’s doing it), but violence will not be tolerated.
