Did you know that Lewis Hamilton’s style icon is Pharrell Williams?
Makes sense after seeing what he chose to wear at Paris Fashion Week.
Speaking to GQ in the wake of being announced as PUMA’s latest sporting ambassador, Hamilton shared a few of his thoughts on fashion, including the one trend he most regrets embracing: baggy jeans.
He also spoke about keeping in shape, and how just one kilogram of extra weight can cause him to lose two seconds in a race. With so much money on the line it’s crucial he stay in shape – which is just one of the reasons why PUMA came a-knocking.
Joining the likes of Rihanna, Big Sean, The Weeknd., and Usain Bolt, Hamilton’s first gig is being the face of the PUMA’s new 24/7 Performance Proposition line of gear, made for working out or just going out.
Yes, yes, athleisure is still a thing – but this collab takes it to another level, explains IOL:
Lewis Hamilton is the perfect embodiment of the 24/7 training proposition. With his unending travels and insane schedule, he demonstrates just how necessary it is to have a wardrobe that performs from the gym to the street.
PUMA has recognised that the city itself can be the gym, track and stage all day, every day, which is how “24/7” came about. The streetwear line is built to perform. Product designs feature a fusion of high performance training technologies with streetwear styling to create the most flexible collection to date.
Take a look at what you can expect to find at either one of South Africa’s PUMA Select stores, and you can watch this space for updates:
So what else did Hamilton have to say? Let’s take a look:
What’s the one piece in your wardrobe that you really love and cherish?
Drake sent me a Canada Goose jacket that he made with his brand OVO. I use it every winter and it’s my favorite [sic] jacket.
Solid name drop, Lewis. We see you.
Well and you go to say you’re friends with Drake, so that’s cool too. Okay, last question: boxers or briefs?
Boxers.
Boxers?!
Wait, wait, no, briefs, briefs. The tighter ones, yeah? You might as well not be wearing underwear at all. It’s also better for training.
What’s one trend you wish would come back?
I think they should bring back the 1970s style flares.
Like flare pants? Saturday Night Fever style?
Yeah, I don’t think I could wear it but I think it would look cool.
You’ve flirted with the idea of making an appearance in NASCAR before. If Puma sponsored your car, would you consider it?
I’m fully committed to F1 at the moment, but I think at some point in the future I might do, like, a guest appearance. But if Puma did it, I think it would look sick. We could make it look so cool. So, yeah, I can’t rule it out at the moment. I also just want to make an appearance in Talladega Nights 2, and I think I’d have to be in NASCAR for that.
Who would have thought that someone who lives their life in the fast lane – literally – has so much passion for fashion?
