Some ads air during the Super Bowl, hog the limelight, and are instantly recognisable for years to come.
Others, however, don’t quite get the recognition they deserve, and that’s where the Epica Awards come in handy.
A jury of international advertising journalists pooled their knowledge to pick ads that you might have overlooked when they debuted in their home markets, and over on Adweek they have rounded up 11 that stood out.
We’ll just do five, because you’re busy and we respect your time management skills, so off we go:
Norwegian Air – Just Like the Movies (Norway)
Is visiting the United States all that Hollywood makes it out to be? One airline goes behind the scenes to find out.
Snickers – Recovery Room (USA)
Having to take a personal call during work can be awkward, but rarely this awkward.
The National Lottery – Let’s Be Blunt: Please Not Them (UK)
This one’s actually from mid-2016, putting it on the outer edge of the Epica Awards’ entry range, but it’s definitely worth watching (and then giving the applaudably self-mocking James Blunt a follow on Twitter).
FedEx – Passive Aggressive (US)
This one might hit a bit close to home for many in the corporate world.
Finn.no – Wingsuit (Norway)
This ongoing campaign reminds us that even the most ill-conceived purchases can sometimes be redeemed.
I think you’ll find more than a few items on Gumtree with similarly iffy backstories.
My personal favourite might be the James Blunt effort, but if you want more options check out six other adverts HERE.
