Oh, wow.
Just last week Singapore Airlines revealed what a R12-billion investment in interiors looks like – you can check it here – and today it’s Emirates’ turn to show us what they have done to upgrade their air transport services.
Basically, Emirates’ upgrade was influenced a little by NASA, as well as a whole lot of Mercedes-Benz.
The announcement was made at the Dubai Air Show yesterday, and saw the UAE carrier announce some decent upgrades to their Boeing 777 fleet, reports The Telegraph:
“Throughout the aircraft, our customers will see modern and airy cabins, with painstaking attention to detail evident in design touches such as the textured wall and ceiling panels, lighting features, and more,” Sir Tim Clark, the president of Emirates, said in a statement.
Here’s a look at the new business class cabins:
The design and shape of seats in its business class cabins have been modelled after the interior of a modern sports car with a “sleek overall look and feel”, designed with diamond stitch pattern on its full leather cover and an ergonomically designed headrest, the company describes.
And the economy class:
All cabin classes will be fitted with a newly improved in-flight entertainment system offering “superior image quality” and “ultra-wide viewing angles” in addition to LED backlighting and a full HD display, the company said.
Oh, and here’s a look at first class with its “zero gravity” bed:
Fully enclosed private suites with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, “virtual windows” and Mercedes-Benz style interiors with seats offering a “zero gravity” position said to be inspired by Nasa technology are among the new “game-changing” cabin designs unveiled by Emirates as part of a multimillion dollar upgrade across all of its Boeing 777 cabins.
Measuring 7ft x 5ft 8in and providing up to 40 square feet of private space, each of the airline’s future first class cabins will be equipped with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that fully enclose the suite, as well as a full-flat bed offering a “zero gravity” position, which aims to simulate the feeling of weightlessness that astronauts experience on board spacecraft.
The window-shaped screens will project real-time live footage of views captured by cameras installed outside the plane, while passengers in window seat suites can will be provided with binoculars to explore closer views outside the aircraft.
The zero gravity position was described to be “better than laying on a fairytale cloud” by former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, who features as an ambassador for the airline in a video highlighting the new cabin designs.
The latest first class cabins will also feature several elements inspired by the German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz, including leather seating, a high-tech control system and mood lighting.
As part of the airline’s first-ever collaboration with another luxury brand, first class passengers will also be offered a complimentary chauffeur transfer service in a Mercedes-Benz S-class car to their destination from the airport.
“Better than laying on a fairytale cloud” – going to need you to relax. Jeremy Clarkson.
Easy does it.
