With the Easter weekend but a heartbeat away, please be careful on the roads. And don’t even think about driving while under the influence, ok? Not even traffic cops can get away with that anymore. In another ironic turn of events in the world of law enforcement (see here and here), a traffic officer was arrested for drunk driving last weekend.
The unnamed 49-year-old traffic officer from George has been suspended after being pulled over and charged with drunk driving during routine checks. Unsurprisingly, Western Cape Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz is not amused.
“Every time any official is found to have violated any form of the law it actually tarnishes the image and the example that they must set as traffic officers,” he said.
That is good to remember.
Happy Easter.
