It came and went, and now we’re left with a whole load of new Apple toys we can look forward to playing with.

Apple’s annual event took place in the Steve Jobs Theatre at Apple Park, Apple’s new campus in Cupertino, California.

Beyond the release of their 10th anniversary iPhone X (all that HERE), they also unveiled the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, the Apple Watch Series 3, and the Apple TV 4K, reports The Verge.

Of course, everything is more powerful and faster than before – let’s take a look at a breakdown for each.

iPhone 8 generation

The new iPhone 8s are an upgrade of the iPhone 7, but with a lot more spice. They also HAVE a glass back (returned for the purpose of wireless charging), a more powerful A11 Bionic processor, improved cameras and a True Tone display.

The iPhone 8 starts at $699 (R9 100) for a 64GB model, while the iPhone 8 Plus will start at $799 (R10 400) (also for 64GB), although both phones will also have a 256GB model.

In the US, preorders begin on Friday, September 15, with the new devices set to ship September 22. Once again, no word on availability in South Africa, but Digicape will have all the news once it’s in.

The Apple Watch Series 3

The new version of the Apple Watch comes with LTE connectivity, which is big. You don’t need to keep it connected to your phone, and it will still work with the same phone number.

Faster than before, it comes with a W2 chip that also improves battery life – so expect up to 18 hours of life. Yippee.

It’ll be out September 22, starting at $329 (R4 300) for the non-cellular version, and $399 (R5 200) for the cellular-equipped model.

Apple TV

This time around, the Apple TV comes with support for 4K and HDR video, thanks to some boosted resolution:

 The Apple TV 4K is compatible with both the HDR10 and Dolby Vision specifications, and will be able to play back 4K HDR content. Apple specifically called out Netflix and Amazon Prime Video (although Prime Video is still set to launch “later this year”).

To go with the new Apple TV 4K, the iTunes Store will also be selling movies and TV shows in 4K and HDR for the same price as HD content, with no charge to upgrade titles that you already own.

The Apple TV 4K will cost $179 (R2 300) when it ships on September 22.

And one last thing – iOS 11 is expected to launch September 19, so even if you can’t get your hands on a new phone, you have a new operating system to mess around with.
