Cape Town Gets International Astronomical Office – The minister of science and technology has launched the International Astronomical Union (IAU) Global Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD) in Cape Town. The IAU decided in 2010 that SA would host the OAD after proposals from several countries were studied. “This is the first step in the execution of the most ambitious global plan ever conceived in astronomy for development,” said the IAU President Robert Williams.
