Tomi Lahren might be easy on the eye, if you’re into that blonde Barbie look, but underneath all that she is pretty toxic.
She has made a career out of pandering to America’s right (and alt-right), so it’s no surprise that she has ended up at Fox News singing for her supper.
Tomi made her name as host of The Blaze, which aired on One America News Network, ending off each show with three-minute segments called “final thoughts”.
These would go viral on social media, with her rant against anthem-kneeling American footballer Colin Kaepernick soaring past 70 million views.
As a profile piece on GQ shows, she was on top of her game until she made a rookie error:
Wielding her toxic brand of right-wing vitriol – whether in 140 characters or direct-to-camera on her television show, On Point With Tomi Lahren – she made hosts on Fox News, the bane of Democrats since the channel’s creation by Rupert Murdoch in 1996, look positively pedestrian. Despite being called “white power Barbie” by adversaries online, it seemed that Lahren, an athletic blonde woman who hails from South Dakota, had settled comfortably into her role as the new media darling of Trump’s United States…
But then, in March, during an appearance on The View, Lahren admitted to something that didn’t sit well with mainstream conservatives: being pro-choice. She said, “I’m someone that’s for limited government. I can’t sit here and be a hypocrite and say I’m for limited government but I think that the government should decide what women should do with their bodies.”
Oops.
What about your Christian beliefs? It’s fine if you mock Black Lives Matter and dehumanise Americans protesting for what they believe in, but don’t be going against those traditional ‘Merican values.
She was suspended by her boss for a week, before having her contract terminated. Conservatives turned on her, with one calling Tomi a “spotlight-loving chameleon whose opinions change based on the crowd [she’s] playing to”.
No need to worry on her behalf, though, because it was only a matter of time until Fox came calling.
I mean, just look at these shots from her Instagram account:
So, what did she talk about on her first night with Fox News? Go on, have a guess.
Russia – no. The floods in Texas and surrounding areas – no? The Daily Beast with the most predictable of entries:
“That’s a load of crap!” Tomi Lahren exclaimed on Fox News with her typical mix of outraged certitude and barnyard bluntness.
She was sharing her insights on the FBI’s rationale—that there’s negligible public interest in Hillary Clinton’s aging emails—for rejecting a Freedom of Information Act request for same.
Ratcheting up her indignation over an issue that curdled long ago—yet is one of the Fox News Channel’s heavy motifs—Lahren added that the idea that Clinton’s “privacy somehow trumps our right to know” was untenable and that the FBI would be well advised to turn over the thousands and thousands of her missing emails. “I’m sorry—your privacy rights are out the window,” she addressed the former secretary of State and unsuccessful Democratic presidential candidate.
Then came a lot of chatter about prosecuting Clinton and throwing her in prison. Lahren vowed that she wouldn’t stop pressing the email case until the Democrats and media stopped bleating about Russia, Russia, Russia.
BUT HER EMAILS – round 73619238.
One more snap from her Instagram account? Sure, why not:
We’ll finish with something quite entertaining, Trevor Noah hosting Tomi back in December of last year:
