Jeffrey Dahmer remains one of America’s most notorious serial killers, murdering at least 17 men and boys during a 14-year period ending in 1991.

You won’t be hearing from the monster himself these days, given that he was beaten to death by a fellow inmate in 1994, but a new movie seeks to shed light on what it was like to grow up alongside Dahmer.

The movie is based on a graphic memoir, written by cartoonist Derf Backderf, who was a high school classmate of Dahmer’s.

Jeff Dahmer (Disney Channel’s Ross Lynch) is an awkward teenager struggling to make it through high school with a family life in ruins.  He collects roadkill, fixates on a neighborhood [sic] jogger (Vincent Kartheiser, “Mad Men”), and copes with his unstable mother (Anne Heche) and well-intentioned father (Dallas Roberts). He begins to act out at school, and his goofball antics win over a group of band-nerds who form The Dahmer Fan Club, headed by Derf Backderf (Alex Wolff, “Patriots Day”). But this camaraderie can’t mask his growing depravity. Approaching graduation, Jeff spirals further out of control, inching ever closer to madness.

Yeah, and we all know how that ended.
