I don’t know what Mick Fanning did to upset the J-Bay shark gods, but it seems that whenever he steps into the water they pop past for a visit.
Everyone knows about the 2015 incident, and his incredible victory the following year at the J-Bay Open, but yesterday saw another chapter in the Mick / Jeffreys Bay roller coaster.
Tuesday’s heats had been postponed after a mako shark was spotted breaching (HERE), and yesterday the surfers were also hauled out of the water when a great white was spotted.
One of the commentators said that the great white was first spotted just six metres from the lineup, headed in the direction of the surfers.
Thankfully everyone ended up safe and sound, and Mick could crack a joke about it:
Let’s all just be thankful that we have the always excellent Shark Spotters watching our beaches down here in the Cape.
