It ain’t easy being an intern.
Long hours, coffee runs, and nowadays it seems you need about three years worth of experience just to land an unpaid gig.
Over in the Czech Republic they do things a little differently, with a nuclear power station using a swimsuit contest to hire interns.
I know, the mind boggles – CNN with more:
CEZ’s Temelín station posted photos of 10 high school graduates posing in bikinis and hard hats on its Facebook page last week. According to the post, the woman with the greatest number of likes was supposed to be crowned “Miss Energy 2017” and score a two-week internship with the company.
“We think photographs are very tasteful,” the company wrote in a comment on the post. “The combination of beauty and the industrial environment gives an interesting result.”
They have since deleted the Facebook post, but of course the folks at the Sun managed some screengrabs:
Thank goodness they have their hard hats. Also, is it still 1985 in the Czech Republic?
The company has since backtracked and tried to make amends:
The plant, which is listed on CEZ’s website as the largest power resource in the Czech Republic, apologized [sic] two days later on Facebook. The company wrote that all 10 women would be offered internships.
“The purpose of the competition was to promote technical education,” the post read. “But if the original vision raised doubts or concerns, we are very sorry.”
When I see things like this I’m always left wondering whether everyone thought it was a good idea, or whether everyone was too afraid to voice their concerns.
2017, you just keep on delivering.
