The Tanzanian “miracle” pastor, Reverend Ambilikile “Babu” Mwasapile has called for a break. He has temporarily asked people to stop going to his remote home for a “miracle cure” after thousands flocked there, resulting in chaos in the surrounding area.
The Tanzanian government have always looked upon this sort of thing in a dubious manner, but, on Monday, Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda said he wouldn’t take any action to stop Mr Mwasapile’s activities.
Clearly something is going right with his magic herbal juice remedy that he creates in the dusty village of Samunge in the wilderness of Loliondo, Arusha region.
Hoping the crowds would thin a little, because let’s be honest, a 26km line is quite a taxing mental obstacle to get one’s head around, the 76 year old announced he would be taking a sabbatical until the beginning of April.
Mr Mwasapile’s concoction is made from herbs and water and he sells it for 500 Tanzanian shillings, or R2.26. Currently he is killing it in more ways than one because people have begun to die in the queue.
In fact, extra police have been deployed to the area to control the masses of people that have travelled from neighbouring countries like Kenya. Reportedly the crowd numbered some 6000 at one stage.
A broth of miracle potion brews over the open fire…
Haji Hussein Mponda, the Tanzanian Health Minister, told a BBC journalist that tests had shown that the concoction was indeed safe for human consumption and that further tests were being conducted.
Mr Mwasapile’s Facebook page reads that:
One needs to drink only a cup and will be cured of his diseases. It is only Mwasapile aka Babu himself who can administer it.
It ceases to be effective if administered by anybody else.
Let us know if you try it.
