You’re not supposed to revel in the misfortune of others, so they say, but for many bullfighting is about as repugnant as any practice out there.

I’m sure many who feel that way will have limited sympathy for 23-year-old Daniel García Navarrete, on the receiving end of a serious goring at Spain’s biggest bullfighting arena.

With a crowd of 10 000 watching on, Navarrete plunges a sword into the back of the bull – something the animal doesn’t take kindly to:

Doctors found the bull had pierced the young man four times, twice in the neck and twice in the jaw…

One of the wounds was 8ins deep while the other of 6ins penetrated the roof of his mouth and base of his tongue.

The young man also sustained severed sciatic nerves, a fractured collarbone and extensive muscle damage.

Here’s hoping he makes a recovery, then realises that stabbing an animal with a sword for fun just makes you look like a real piece of shit.
