Watching the Brits handle themselves on and around the sports field is a hobby that many of us have indulged in over the years. In particular their addiction to jinxing. However sick you may think it is, the way they (and the press) build themselves up, and then proceed to collapse in a heap of utter disappointment and blame (directly proportional to the obscene levels to which they originally built it up) is terribly entertaining. We’ve been studying this vibe of theirs for years (enjoy some of our vintage Tim Henman stuff here) – and they don’t seem to be letting up any time soon. Take this Nike commercial that got leaked onto the net, proudly proclaiming their 6-Nations 2011 Grand Slam victory – made before they lost to Ireland [follow link for video]
Check this out (from Sport24):
London – English rugby officials have been left red-faced following the leak of a pre-recorded Nike advert which hails England for winning the Six Nations Grand Slam.
England’s hopes of winning the Grand Slam were dashed on Saturday when Martin Johnson’s side were routed 24-8 by Ireland in a one-sided defeat at Lansdowne Road.
However a Nike advert saluting England as “Grand Slam Champions 2011” was leaked onto the Internet on Tuesday despite the team’s defeat.
The video shows England stars Toby Flood, Chris Ashton and Ben Foden in a series of staged action clips before signing off with the team’s red rose emblem.
The RFU later issued a statement expressing dismay at the leak, insisting that the footage for the advert was shot in advance for commercial reasons and denying Ireland were taken lightly.
