Cape Town traffic is already ridiculous, so when a major car crash happens just before people are set to journey home from work, you can imagine the backlog caused throughout the peninsula.
Like yesterday.
After private security personnel spotted and attempted to intercept four suspects who had burgled a house in Diep River, the burglars got away and a high-speed car chase ensued.
What resulted was a three-vehicle collision on the M3 highway near the Firgrove turn-off in Constantia. According to iol:
Three of four suspected robbers, believed to be members of the “crowbar gang”, were killed in a dramatic high-speed chase with private security guards in Cape Town on Wednesday.
One of the four, in a silver-grey Toyota Corolla, a suspect in a house break-in in Diep River, was rushed to hospital. Three other people, including a child, from other vehicles were also taken to hospital. The suspect is under police watch.
Police recovered stolen household items from the suspects’ vehicle.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut said the cause of the fatal accident was being investigated:
The occupants of the other two vehicles, a mother and a child in the one vehicle and a male person in the other, were admitted to hospital with minor injuries.
Both lanes on the M3 remained closed for 1km on either side of the scene until late in the afternoon.
