I still remember where I was when Mark Boucher cleared the infield and our total ticked over to 438, completing the most glorious ODI chase in cricketing history.

Gibbs, Smithers, Bouch, the unsung Johan van der Wath – there were many heroes that day at the Wanderers (Mick Lewis, check top spot HERE), and the sheer joy of that win will never be forgotten by cricket fans in this country.

When the Ozzies racked up 371 in their 50 overs yesterday they must have felt relatively safe, and when Duminy went out with the total at 217 the writing seemed well and truly on the wall.

Enter David Miller and Andile Phehlukwayo – learn how to pronounce that name ASAP, you’ll be saying it plenty.

We’ll mention that Andile was actually out caught behind first ball, the umpire missing a healthy edge, but that doesn’t detract from the steely resolve he showed at the wicket as the pair guided us home.

Maybe Andile can give Rilee Rossouw some reverse sweep lessons, although I’d suggest the latter rule it out completely for now.

A special shout out to Ozzie keeper Matthew Wade [below], who spent the best part of 40 overs sledging every South African who came to the crease. Special treatment was dished out to Quinny, Rilee and David Miller, and right now we can only guess Wade is feeling like a complete and utter wanker.

Newsflash bud, all of the above have won a few international matches for their country on their own – you might want to shut your gob until you’ve done the same.

Quick stat attack – our chase is the second-highest of all time (after the 438 game of course), and eight of the 10 biggest run chases of all time have come against Australia.

I would love to throw around the C-word – choker, not whatever you were thinking – but let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Anyway back to one of the heroes, David Miller talking to Sport24:

“It obviously means the world to me. Being dropped a couple of months ago … it’s been an interesting year for me and I’ve learnt quite a bit,” a beaming Miller said after his knock.

“I believe everything happens for a reason and it was really a special moment to take the team home. I take a lot of confidence from that.

“I was trying to not really show my nerves in the beginning. I couldn’t really get going and I kept hitting he fielders.

“I knew we had to keep the run rate going. I just tried to take it slowly in the beginning and soak it up. I think I hit a boundary to get going after about 15 or 16 balls and from there things started coming a bit easier”…

“I always know once we get below 100 (to win) … it’s a big milestone,” he said.

“I knew if we just carried on and batted 50 overs we would win the game. That’s what I told Dwaine (Pretorius), that’s what I told Andile (Phehlukwayo). That was the plan.”

Soak it up Dave and Andile, it doesn’t come much sweeter than that.

Beating the Ozzies four times in the space of six days across two sporting codes? Yes please, I’ll have me some of that.
