There’s a truly disturbing voice note doing the rounds on social media, and it’s one that Wits University is taking pretty seriously.

Details remain sketchy, but in the audio below an unidentified woman can be heard talking about how unimpressed protesters are with VC Adam Habib.

That’s nothing new, he’s been under fire since last year’s protests rocked campuses, but it’s the next bit that is rather alarming.

The university says the voice message has been handed over to their security department and is being treated as a scare tactic.

“We have been made aware of the voice message,” said Wits spokesperson Shirona Patel.

“It is difficult to trace the source of the message but it has been handed over to our security department for verification.”

The university has urged anyone with information to contact 011 717 1853.
