Walmart Did Badly With This 9/11 Coke Display

Every brand knows to tread lightly when using national tragedies to promote products, something Walmart would do well to remember.

Oh dear Walmart, someone has had a shocker.

This Sunday will be 15 years since the Twin Towers came down, in what was arguably the most brazen terrorist attack of modern times.

The other day I was sucked into the YouTube vortex and ended up watching some footage of the second plane hitting – HERE – and for many Americans the wounds are still very fresh.

With that in mind let’s see what this Walmart in Florida has done to remember the day:

Nah guys, you’ve dropped the ball on this one. Here’s AP:

Walmart said in a statement the display was removed…

“We hold this moment in our country’s history in the highest regard, and there was nothing disrespectful intended by the display,” it said.

The company said the design for the display for the store in Panama City Beach, Florida, came from the supplier, and was approved by its store management.

The Coca-Cola bottler for the region said the display was meant to honor [sic] local firefighters and support an upcoming event for their organization. “We sincerely apologize that anyone was offended or misunderstood its intent, and we have replaced the display,” the bottler said.

Walmart: we will never forget – to shamelessly plug our products using whatever means necessary.
