At Apple’s “special event” yesterday, where they released the new generation of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (see all the specs HERE), the tech company also announced their second generation watch, Apple Watch 2.
It has been two years since Apple released its first generation, so you would expect some sort of major change in the appearance, but nah, they pretty much kept the same square face along with multiple wristbands to choose from.
However, as Wired suggests, it’s the inside which is most impressive. The Apple Watch now has GPS and is waterproof for up to 50m – which means you can shower with it on and track your swimming fitness. Wired has more:
Apple Watch Series 2 has a new chip that’s 50 percent faster and doubles the graphics performance, Apple says. There’s a new, brighter display that burns with the power of 1,000 nits.
In fairness, none of this means that the Watch has been stagnant. The hardware evolution might be incremental, but this summer Apple detailed its significant overhauls of how it works, streamlining and simplifying WatchOS in ways that should make the device feel brand new in use, even if familiar at a glance.
And get this: if you have become reliant on your Apple Watch, and still have a Pokemon Go addiction, you can now play the game on the new Apple Watch throughout the day and catch up on hatching those 10km eggs.
Whoop.
