Newt Gingrich
Politicians cheat on occasion, and I don’t just mean at cards. Sometimes they sleep with people that they’re not married to. Sometimes politicians condemn their peers for adultery, only to be caught in the very same act some time later. Newt Gingrich, recently pinged for cheating on his wife, was the very same guy who lead the charge to impeach President Bill Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair.
Gingrich’s former job was Speaker of the House in the US Congress, thus he stands (or stood) a much better chance of becoming a future president of America than most other politicians. His excuse for cheating on his wife is that he was “stressed”.
“There’s no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate”.
Nice move. My favourite part, however, is that he “felt compelled to seek God’s forgiveness” because of his affair, but is now “truly enjoying the depths of my life in ways that I never dreamed it was possible.”
Some of this guy’s previous achievements include converting to Catholicism two years ago and dumping his first wife for a mistress while said first wife was undergoing cancer surgery in hospital.
Thank goodness we don’t deal with this kind of stuff in South Africa.
