Just several years ago a video was shared of students forcing cleaners at the University of Free State to eat food laced with urine. It was a disgusting portrayal of the underlying racism that still existed in people of such a young age, and South Africa was genuinely shocked.
Then, the university appointed Professor Jonathan Jansen as vice-chancellor and collectively the country hoped things would get better.
Alas.
It has been eight years since the incident, and not only was there racially fueled violence during the student protests earlier this year, but yet another racist incident has allegedly occurred at the university.
While working at her post, guard Mmapaseka Mokhutli denied three students attempting to leave campus without their access cards. When they returned, they poured liquid, which she believes was urine, over her face, and drove off laughing.
She recounted her story for media:
Now investigations by the university are being launched, and the three are facing a disciplinary hearing.
How can you treat someone like that?
