Move over Harry you ginger ninja, there’s a new most eligible bachelor in town.
His name is Hugh Grosvenor and, after the death of his father, Gerald Grosvenor (the Duke of Westminster), he has inherited an absolute bloody fortune.
Gerald passed away at the age of 64 from a heart attack, and now his only son (he has two daughters) will inherit his title and his money.
He was commonly regarded as the richest British-born, full-time resident, with others chasing the title either based and paying tax overseas, or born outside the U.K.
Let’s learn about young Hugh – the Daily Beast below:
He is a close friend of William and Kate Middleton and is Prince George’s godfather. Much like the young royals, he guards his privacy fiercely, has never given an interview and has no presence on social media.
Acquaintances tell The Daily Beast he is a polite and reserved character, little-known outside a circle of close friends…
…he was sent to a local state primary school but then attended a private secondary school, as did his three sisters. He did not board, as Gerald hated his school days at Harrow, leaving with just two O-levels.
His father threw a 21st birthday party for him at the family seat in Chester, for which the dress code was “black tie and neon.” Presents were banned but those who insisted were permitted to add to the young man’s wine collection.
Well that’s all the ‘boring stuff’ out of the way, so let’s see what the Daily Mail has to add:
…a number of pictures have emerged which show the young aristocrat enjoying a number of raucous nights out with friends – in one he and a friend pose with a naked blow up doll, in another he wears a pink teddy bear onesie and beams at the camera.
It is believed most of the pictures were taken during his time as a student at Newcastle University.
A varsity student having a jol? Oh, the horror. Some pics then, with young Hugh in the pink onesie…
Some ‘sources’ say he’s actually a rather decent chap:
‘You’d never have known that his dad was a billionaire.
‘He never flashed the cash although he would often put his hand in his pocket to buy a round of drinks.
‘He’s a really down-to-earth bloke who never acted like a toff and is just a really good guy.’
Stuff explain a little about why he alone inherits the money despite being one of three children:
It is only as a result of Britain’s ancient laws of primogeniture that Hugh has inherited his father’s title. He is, after all, preceded by his older sisters Lady Tamara, 36, who is married to one of the Duke of Cambridge’s closest friends, Edward van Cutsem, and Lady Edwina, 34, the wife of television presenter Dan Snow.
By virtue of being a boy, however, Hugh now inherits both the title and the estate, although his sisters – including the youngest, Lady Viola, 23 – will benefit from substantial trust funds.
Ladies, the patriarchy is alive and well – now form an orderly queue please, because young Hugh seems quite the catch.
