In South Africa, fatal hijackings are nothing new – but when they are captured on camera a chilling tingle runs down your spine.
Johannesburg residents are especially easy targets to this sort of crime, as big money attracts higher levels of organised theft. Something as simple as the car you own can become a target for organised criminals.
And that’s just what happened to Gordon Patterson, a well-known media strategist.
A hijacking incident occurred in his enclosed parking area on Thursday evening last week, which resulted in Patterson being shot while fending off the men who were trying to steal his car.
The hijackers waited for him to drive into his driveway and, just as the gates were about to close, three men ran in. When Patterson tried to fight off the men, one shot him.
Gordon Patterson later passed away from his wounds. He was the business director of the Omnicom Group.
