After the driver of a lorry purposely drove 2km through a crowd of people celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France last night, he killed at least 84 people and wounded many more.

Soon after the driver was killed, he was identified as a 31-year-old Tunisian man. Identity papers were found in the vehicle, along with grenades and firearms.

Although he was known to local authorities for common law crimes, he was never flagged to the intelligence services.

It is not known whether he was a lone ranger or has accomplices.

The intelligence services will begin investigations into his personal life, tracking IP addresses, cell phone calls and online habits. That, along with all the other information they will gather, could lead to a clearer idea about his motives and affiliations.
