There was a time, back in the days of a younger and marginally less wise me, when I really wanted to hate Richie McCaw.

Referees never penalised him for those dirty paws in the ruck, his team always managed to pip us to the post, and no matter how hard we hit him he just kept on coming back for more.

Over the years hate gave way to respect and, after witnessing the All Blacks win the 2011 World Cup on home soil, respect gave way to adulation.

He may well be the greatest rugby player of all time, but now for the first time we’ll get a real behind-the-scenes look at the making of the man.

I think we can all agree he nailed that quest to be a ‘GAB’.
