His name is Alton Sterling, and his is just another name added to a long list of black men slain by white police officers in the U.S.
Of course these days that’s nothing new, but after a second video emerged of the incident in Louisiana outrage has once again been brought to boiling point.
In the first video you’ll see below, police officers Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake can be seen tackling the 37-year-old and bringing him down.
Then this from BusinessInsider:
One officer appears to say, “You f—ing move, I swear to God,” and then one officer fires two shots into Sterling’s chest. Seconds later, at least three more shots can be heard. Afterward, one of the officers appears to remove something from Sterling’s right pants pocket…
By the time paramedics arrived on scene, Sterling was dead. An autopsy revealed that he died of multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back

So where are we with justice being served on this one?
The Justice Department has launched an investigation to determine whether police violated Sterling’s civil rights. As is policy, the officers have been placed on administrative leave for the duration of the investigation, but maintain they were “completely justified,” the district attorney said…
Viewed in isolation these murders are horrendous, but when viewed as a collective they really do point to a deep, systemic problem within the U.S. police force.
