Wimbledon, a place where English aristocrats dine on strawberries and cream whilst claiming Scotsman Andy Murray as one of their own.
Despite all the dress and decorum, now and again the players don’t necessarily tow the line.
Take for example Serbian Viktor Troicki, who completely lost his cool during his match against Spaniard Albert Ramos-Viñolas.
His tirade was one for the ages, with this below from the Independent:
With the match finely poised at two sets apiece – and the fifth standing at 5-3 to Albert Ramos-Viñolas, the Spaniard was awarded match point for a serve which Troicki believed to be out.
The 30-year-old then led an impassioned plea with the umpire, brandishing the ball to prove none of the white paint had been transferred in an effort to prove it had not touched the line.
He screamed: “No white, look at it! Come on, please, look at it!” As the umpire attempted to explain his decision, which eventually led to an early departure from the championships, Troicki roared: “What? What?! The worst umpire ever in the world!”
…Troicki then appeared resigned to his fate, handing Ramos-Viñolas with victory with a wayward final shot. He continued: “Do you know what you did? Do you know what you did?
“Do you know what you did? You’re horrible! What are you doing? What are you doing? Tell me, what are you doing?”
Following the match, Troicki marched straight into the referee’s office to continue his protestations.
At least he didn’t use McEnroe’s trademark ‘You CANNOT be serious’ war cry.
Try as hard as you want Viktor, you’ll still never be as much of a prick as Ozzie Nick Kyrgios.
