The Comrades Marathon, one helluva test of human endurance, and a roller coaster ride of emotions as the clock ticks towards 12 hours and everyone tries to scramble over the line.
It was also a test of skill for some motorbikes following defending champion Caroline Wostmann, the runner almost colliding with one bike as another followed in hot pursuit:
Major drama at #Comrades2016 as #carolinewostmann clashes with bikes. She’s struggling to stay on a line. 10km left pic.twitter.com/9aBvtcC3Fo

Traveller24 with a little round up:
South Africa’s David Gatebe broke the ‘down’ record in this year’s Comrades Marathon, clocking in with a time of 5:18.19.
Gatebe, running for the TomTom Athletics Club, broke Russian Leonid Shvetsov’s 2007 record of 5:20.49.
In the ladies’ race, South African Charne Bosman overtook defending champion Caroline Wostmann in the final few kilometres to win a thrilling 2016 women’s Comrades. Bosman finished in a time of 6:25.55.
Wostmann, looking to defend her title from last year’s ‘up’ run, ran into problems in the closing stages and was forced to walk.
Bosman, who had been as much as 11 minutes adrift at one stage, finished strongly and overtook an ailing Wostmann with 2km to go to the Kingsmead Stadium finish line…
A congrats to everyone who even attempted the race, that in itself is worthy of praise.
