I maintain that Canadians are amongst the nicest people in the world, and even in Parliament they still manage to behave like adults.
Sometimes, because if you want to see politicians overreact then you must see this exchange in Canada’s House of Commons.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has landed himself in hot water for elbowing Ruth Ellen Brosseau, and you really need to watch the entire clip to soak it all in.
Here’s the action unfolding:
That’s right, an actual outright apology where someone sucks up their pride and seems to genuinely show remorse for their actions.
Not something we’re used to seeing around these parts from JZ, now is it?
More on the incident from CBC:
NDP MP Tracey Ramsey said the prime minister swore as he approached Brown and the opposition benches. “He said ‘Get the bleep out of the way,'” she said, adding Trudeau “violently” grabbed Brown.
Sources told CBC News that Trudeau used the F-word — a profane utterance that decades earlier landed his father, Pierre Trudeau, in hot water in the same House of Commons…
NDP MP colleague Niki Ashton said she was deeply troubled by Trudeau’s actions.
“I am ashamed to be a witness to the person who holds the highest position in our country do such an act. I want to say that for all of us who witnessed this, this was deeply traumatic. What I will say, if we apply a gendered lens, it is very important that young women in this space feel safe to come here and work here,” she said.
“He made us feel unsafe and we’re deeply troubled by the conduct of the prime minister of this country.”
Anyway, if Canadian politicians think that was rough they wouldn’t last a day in our Parliament – hard hats (HERE), fire extinguishers (HERE), the list of weapons goes on.
South African and Canadian politicians, worlds apart.
