The latest Apple development secret to be let out the bag is that the next generation of Apple watches may come with their own cellular connectivity.
Upgrading the wearable device in the hopes that people will want to actually wear it, it has been reported that the company is working on adding cell-network connectivity and “a faster processor to the wearable.”
Exciting times, hey?
Mashable suggests that the update could be a game-changer in two ways:
First, it would prompt existing Apple Watch owners to upgrade (most people don’t buy a new $300-$550 watch — not even a smart watch — every year).
Second, it would make the device a more attractive first-time buy for those who have been on the fence about the device.
You see, many people find the Apple Watch redundant. Pulling your phone out of your pocket is just easier than checking your watch. But the connectivity would jumpstart the wearable device, to a world beyond fitness tracking and into the realm of being a real boy mobile communication device.
