When you have Donald Trump in the mix there really is no need to throw in racist jokes, there are more than enough doing the rounds without Hillary Clinton getting involved.

She is catching serious heat after a joke she cracked with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio this past weekend, the two acting in a skit alongside Hamilton cast member Leslie Odom Jr.

Jokes aren’t funny when you have to explain them, but then again this one wasn’t really funny to begin with. Here’s Vox:

The racist aspect of this joke is the reference to CP time, which is typically read as “colored [sic] people’s time” — the stereotype that people of color, particularly African Americans, are always running late.

People are, as one would expect, not happy about it. Gawker called it “awkward.” Salon said it was “cringeworthy.” The New York Daily News’s front page put the skit on blast…

In the aftermath of the joke bombing Hillary basically threw the mayor of New York under the bus as Gawker explains:

“Well, look, it was Mayor de Blasio’s skit,” Clinton said. “He has addressed it, and I will really defer to him because it is something that he’s already talked about.”

Some advice for Hillary then – Trump’s supporters tend to love his racist jokes, it validates many of their views and opinions, but you’re dealing with a slightly more highbrow voter base so best you leave the off-colour quips to the pros.
