Despite the slowdown in China’s economy, a rare blue diamond set a new record after fetching HK$248.29 million (R481.63 million) at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong on Tuesday.
A 10.10 carat vivid blue diamond, it broke the record for the most expensive piece of jewellery sold at an auction in Asia.
Just bigger than an almond, it was described by Sotheby’s as the largest oval blue diamond ever to appear on auction and “internationally flawless”. It was sold to an anonymous phone bidder.
Next time an auction like this comes around you may want to get a bid or two in. If you’re lacking the cash right now then just buy a few Powerball tickets from South Africa HERE – you may wake up tomorrow R2 billion richer.
Damn, son.
