Well hey, this could be fun. Since Jon Favreau – director of Iron Man and its sequel – decided not to sign on for the series’ third installment, Marvel’s been on the hunt for a suitable replacement, and it looks like Shane Black, writer of Lethal Weapon and director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, is the guy.
Robert Downey Jr. worked with Black previously in the noir comedy Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and it’d be pretty cool to see those two reunited – although the understanding is that Favreau walked out on the series due to issues of payment and difficulty reconciling his own director’s vision with the wider Thor/Hulk/Captain America franchise, and it’s not hard to see similar issues pop up with Black. Upside: no more Favreau cameos.
