You’ll recall just last week we chatted about the atrocious conditions our Joburg friends are having to put up with as a result of what can only be described as the complete and utter mismanagement of local jozi municipal services. Well, finally they have heeded their consciences’ advice and done the right thing by charging their rogue sheriff.
The Blairgowrie Community Association has taken one bold step for jozikind and brought charges against both Mayor Masondo as well as mayoral committee member on finance, Parks Tau.
Basically the charges speak for themselves and relate to the ridiculous over-billing of many jozi residents for rates and utilities followed by the now discovered illegal disconnections if the bills were not paid.
Yes, it is illegal to be disconnected for non-payment if you have lodged a dispute with the municipality according to the Blairgowrie Community Association’s spokesperson Linus Muller.
Evidently many jozi residents have already been over billed and disconnected even though they had punctually laid their disputes.
Some have also paid for amounts they clearly didn’t owe just to abide by the disconnection and final demand letters sent out by the municipality.
Victims of the crisis and the Johannesburg Advocacy Group planned a demonstration outside the City’s complaints office this morning and looked to garner support through the peaceful process of actually obeying the rule of law in South Africa.
