Who is Kim Dotcom – that’s a fair question, so before we get stuck into this monster piece on Wired let’s outline a few things about the man who has come to be known as ‘the internet’s most wanted man’.
Originally of German-Finnish descent Kim is most famous for founding file hosting service Megaupload, a site estimated to have cost the entertainment industry around $500 million through its distribution of content.
It is estimated that Megaupload brought in around $25 million a year in ad revenue and another $150 million a year for its subscription services, making Kim a very wealthy chap.
He now calls Aukland, New Zealand home, although he is battling attempts by the U.S. government to extradite him so that he can face charges including criminal copyright infringement.
I deem that sufficient groundwork, so let’s go ahead and see what WIRED are on about in their piece titled ‘Inside the Manion – and mind – of the Net’s Most Wanted Man’. It happens to be a beast of an article so we’ll set the scene and you can do the rest:
