There’s a minor gang issue in Dublin and is the cause for some reactionary violence between two groups. A man was injured in a shooting on Monday night after an incident last week Friday saw a man killed during a boxing match. Police believe that it is gang-related. Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald appealed for any other gang members who fear for their lives to come forward and seek protection:
Tonight’s fatal shooting in Dublin is another deplorable example of the ruthlessness of gangland criminals. It seems that some gangs are intent on waging a feud where human life counts for nothing.
The gardai will take all necessary steps to try to prevent further bloodshed but we have to recognise the challenges they face. Members of gangs who have fears for their safety should come forward to the gardai.
The footage seen above is from the first incident where more than 300 people were at a hotel waiting for a boxing match to begin. Shooting took place in the foyer and David Byrne, 31, from Raleigh Square in Crumlin was killed. The murder was claimed by a group purporting to be the Continuity IRA, a dissident republican splinter faction. The police don’t agree, however, and think that it is most probably gang-related.
