When you invite 12 000 Pommies to your party and they proceed to flatten the host for two days you can be sure of one thing – people will drink beer.

It helps that the English could basically afford a beer with a one pound coin and the weather was cooking, all of which combined to make sure that a whole chunk of change was spent on the golden nectar. Here’s Sport24:

Stadium management confirmed to Sport24 on Thursday that after all five days of the match, R2.84 million had been spent by thirsty spectators on beer, wine and cider alone.

And that intake was cash only, with card transactions yet to be tallied.

1 042 50-litre kegs of Castle Draught were sold throughout the Test, which equates to 104 200 500ml pints.

Unofficially this is a record, breaking the 2005 New  Year’s Test against the same opposition. If you’re really a fan of numbers then here is your day by day breakdown:

Day 1 – 301 kegs

Day 2 – 270 kegs

Day 3 – 225 kegs

Day 4 – 161 kegs

Day 5 – 85 kegs
