If you read the Morning Spice earlier you’ll know that a house in Durban was seen flying an ISIS flag, a few Pinetown residents concerned enough to report the incident to authorities.
Not much was known about who was flying the flag until News24 tracked down Julian Eric Moore, the owner of the property in question. Things are about to get weird so play close attention:
“Someone had broken into my garden and then climbed into the tree and put the flag on a stick. It wasn’t me. When I saw it I just laughed because this is not even serious. Actually I can’t even see the flag from my property,” he said.
He said that while the flag had been taken down since, he didn’t see “the issue” with it.
“They are not a listed terrorist organisation in South Africa and there is nothing wrong with them here. People hang the old South African flag and no one makes a big deal about that,” Moore added.
Ja guys just chill, it’s not like they just carried out a series of highly-orchestrated terror attacks or anything. Remember that part about it getting weird? Moore reportedly spoke to local paper The Witness and gave a somewhat different account:
Moore had said his name was actually Fazwaz Bashir, and he readily admitted to raising the ISIS colours.
He reportedly said: “They are bombing our comrades in Ar-Raqqah and Syria. We must ¬retaliate.”
His view on the old national flag also seemed fluid. “Some people fly the old South African flag and people are getting angry about it. You don’t have to look if you don’t want to. This is not another flag that looks like an ISIS flag, it is the ISIS flag.”
I don’t want to be associated with anyone flying the old South African flag, in my book that’s disgusting, and I sure as hell don’t want to live near anyone who admits to flying the flag of a vicious and vile terrorist organisation.
Good fences make good neighbours.
