Sunday and Monday saw leaders from around the world descend on Antalya, Turkey for the tenth G-20 summit. While public discussions concerned world economies and how to fight terrorism, the gathering also provided a chance for leaders to gather privately in hush-hush situations.
On the sidelines, Obama and Putin held discussions for over 30 minutes first over the Syrian situation and then Ukraine:
Strategic objectives relating to the fight against the Islamic State are, in principle, very similar (between Russia and the US), but there are differences on the tactics side.
President Obama and President Putin agreed on the need for a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition, which would be proceeded by UN-mediated negotiations between the Syrian opposition and regime as well a ceasefire.
While all this was established by either side’s formal representatives, it seems that one man was adamant on getting the info first hand and, walking around like Buster from Arrested Development, couldn’t quite get a grip on the situation.
