If you’re into the hip and happening local music scene I think it’s safe to assume that you’ve heard of Original Swimming Party. Fronted by Jeremy de Tolly, he of the Dirty Skirts fame, these guys have gone from strength to strength and built a loyal following across the country.
Now they’re out to spread the love, co-hosting a unique event this Friday (the 13th, don’t get spooked) at Assembly. It’s co-curated with Vincent Manzini from Ikasi Experience, and Andy Mkosi from Jam That Sessions and is called CROSSOVER CULTURE.
CROSSOVER CULTRURE is a new series of events that represents a coming together of acts from many different backgrounds in Cape Town with the intention of addressing the city’s fractured cultural and economic landscape. The genres represented at the first event range from Hip Hop and Soul to Gqom (new minimal house genre emerging from South African townships), House and Experimental Electronica.
We’re looking at nine acts over two stages and this is who’s invited:
MAIN STAGE
Birthday Girl (Experimental Electronica)
Diamond Thug (Indie Electronica)
Original Swimming Party (Experimental Afrotronica)
Sdumo Viwe (Gqom / Sjokojoko)
Thibo Tazz (Deep House)
ANNEX
Siphe Tebeka (Tech / Techno)
Eden Myrrh (Alternative Pop / Funk / Soul)
DJ Sydwell (Gqom / Sjokojoko)
DJ War (Gqom / Sjokojoko)
For those wanting more info head on over to the CROSSOVER CULTURE Facebook page, all the details are down there for what promises to be a great evening.
What’s even better is that we’re giving away THREE free double tickets for anyone who can answer this question…
Name any of the CROSSOVER CULTURE co-curators?
Email your answer to osp@originalswimmingparty.com and use the subject line ‘2OV TICKETS YO’. No email no win, and the winners will be notified via email Friday morning so check your inbox to see if you cracked the nod.
