What is up with footballers and sex tapes, are they not content with the YouTube clips watched by millions that show their prowess on the field?
Now if you’re familiar with football you’ll know the name Karim Benzema, the Real Madrid player who Cristiano Ronaldo shouts at every time he goes for goal. Well now the striker is under investigation in connection for a blackmail plot that involved trying to extort money from French national teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
Benzema has denied all involvement through his lawyer but there may well be something here as BBC reports:
The two men reportedly had an exchange during a training session.
According to French media, Mr Benzema mentioned the tape to the midfielder during a national team training session at Clairefontaine in early October.
A source close to inquiry, quoted by told AFP news agency, said the 27-year-old star told investigators on Thursday he had approached Mr Valbuena about the tape on behalf of “a childhood friend”…
Sources have told French media that a relative of Mr Benzema was contacted by the blackmailers, in an attempt to involve him in the scheme against his team-mate. There has been no confirmation from police.
Three other men have been placed under formal investigation after Mr Valbuena was contacted by someone claiming to have the video.
Talk about more money than sense – Benzema is reported to earn around €150 000 per week. Better yet this isn’t even his first foray into the world of sex scandals, having only last year been cleared of sleeping with an under-age prostitute.
It looks like footballers are becoming increasingly narcissistic as their wages continue to sky-rocket. Stop filming yourselves having sex, is that too much to ask?
