Remember back in the day when you used to suip from a five litre papsak, holding your nose whilst you chugged back the remnants of what was at time an acceptable grape? Just me…tough crowd.
The point is I’m sure your drinking habits have come a long way since the days of yonder. You’ve hopefully moved onto some of the finer things in life- a well-crafted ale, a bottle of wine that didn’t come with a handle and bubbly that is fit for day-time consumption.
If you haven’t then tisk tisk, you might want to have a look at what has been dubbed the Chambong. Originally devised as an implement to imbibe some popular herb its creators soon realised it may have a slightly more acceptable use. This from the Daily Mail:
It’s the Chambong, a champagne flute in the shape of a pipe that helps drinkers down bubbly in seconds flat.
By placing their mouth around the tube and tipping the glass backwards, drinkers can ingest champagne at a much faster rate than simply chugging…
The Chambong costs $25 (R337) and is large enough to fit four ounces of liquid. It’s also made of high borosilicate glass and is dishwasher safe.
Sure, if you’re chugging champagne out of what was originally meant as a bong you definitely own a dishwasher.
The thing about drinking good bubbly is that you want to savour the taste, something I’m guessing the Chambong creators weren’t considering.
Let’s chat like adults for a moment here and talk about why you’re paying over the odds for just about every bottle of bubbly you purchase. You need to be tucking into the good stuff, some Pierre Jourdan, but you don’t need to be paying silly money to do so. We’ve hooked up a deal where you can now land SIX bottles of their Cuvee Brut for just R600, which is a steal when you consider you’re paying upwards of R250 a pop at a high-end restaurant.
Or, you know, grab a Chambong and funnel that horrid stuff you used to drink – your call.
