It might not be as big as Charlize Theron winning her Oscar back in 2003 but we should still be pretty stoked that we garnered three nominations in the 2015 International Emmy Awards.
We are one of just 19 countries to make the big time this year, the nominees announced last night by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. TimesLive reports:
M-Net’s MasterChef South Africa is nominated in the reality, or so called “non-scripted” category and is produced by Quizzical Pictures and Lucky Bean Media. It’s the second time that MasterChef SA gets an international Emmy nomination after it also snagged one in 2013.
Puppet Nation ZA (previously called ZA News), produced by Both Worlds was nominated in the comedy category.
After getting 11 nominations, Puppet Nation ZA won 7 Golden Horn trophies earlier this year at the South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) in May.
The harrowing documentary Miners Shot Down – the Uhuru Productions documentary about the Marikana Massacre produced by filmmaker Rehad Desai – scored a nomination in the documentary category.
The only other African country to feature was Angola, with the winners to be announced in New York on November 23.
If you’re a fan of Masterchef you might want to listen to The Peter Goffe-Wood Show (the first Wednesday of each month between 14:30 and 15:30), he certainly lives up to his reputation as a no-nonsense straight shooter and isn’t afraid to ruffle a few feathers along the way.
