Another top 100 list, another feather in our caps – wait, hang on, well this is awkward…
Unfortunately scouring the top 100 universities in the world reveals a grand total of zero from South Africa. That’s right, we didn’t manage to crack the big time.
Let’s move swiftly on and find out who took top honours in The Times Higher Education (THE) magazine’s ranking system, with these below from the Telegraph:
1. California Institute of Technology, US
2. University of Oxford, UK
3. Stanford University, US
4. University of Cambridge, UK
5. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US
6. Harvard University, US
7. Princeton University, US
8. Imperial College London, UK
9. ETH Zürich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland
10. University of Chicago, US
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Caltech have nailed down numero uno, this is their fifth year sitting atop the rankings. It’s not all doom and gloom for our institutions though, with this tweet showing it was a close-run thing.
No mention of where some of our country’s other tertiary educations ended up on that list – you know who you are, do your own digging.
