A major operation between South African and Belgian police has led to the arrest of a 20 year old suspect in Melville. The charge? The possession and distribution of child porn.
The video (click pic below for video) shows South African officers acting under Operation Cloud 9 swoop into the students house – while his parents were at home – and search his hardware for anything with child porn. The officers found a hard drive containing pornographic material involving children, and it was confiscated immediately.
This follows a series of 40 arrests that have happened – and more are imminent. ISPCAN President Joan Van Niekerk says:
It’s very difficult to know how bad the problem is because the access to child pornography is often done very secretly in the privacy of someone’s home and so we don’t know the full extent of the problem.
The Law Commission has a special committee looking at the issue of child pornography and has put out an issue paper for public comment. We invite the public to access the law reform commission’s website and download the paper so they can contribute to ensuring that we as a country do everything we can to protect children from this.
You never, ever know who and how or why.
