If you’re struggling with which of your thousands of facebook friends to exclude from your 21st invite list, and daddy is an oil/diamond/perlemoen tycoon, the City of Cape Town has come up with a wonderful solution; the Cape Town stadium’s nightly rental tariff has been set at R700k. Of course you don’t have to rent the whole thing…
Property 24 reports that since setting the price, the city has been inundated with requests, ranging “from major concerts and sporting events to conference, wedding and corporate events. Some of the bookings already lined up include U2, Neil Diamond, Kings of Leon and Bon Jovi.”
OK so the Kings have confirmed the postponement of March tour to possibly November, and now we’re seemingly waiting on a prayer for Jon Bon. Too much!
Returning to the stadium as a birthday party/bar mitzvah/wedding venue, you can hire smaller venues within the stadium (if you absolutely have to):
In terms of the tariff structures, it is possible to hire smaller venues within the stadium itself such as a business lounge on the third floor of the stadium that will cost a mere R21k or one of the suites on the fourth floor that will cost you around R40k.
The city spokesman goes on to say that “the tariff models do provide some leeway for the city when negotiating with the clients who want to hire a venue.” That’s just asking to be messed around.
Imagine this conversation:
“Hello, is that the stadium? I want to rent the field for a bachelors footy game. No, we don’t have 700k, but we’re willing to negotiate… How about R2500?”
