It has now been over a year since Michael Brown was shot dead in Ferguson, Missouri, but that doesn’t mean anger and tension between police and the local community have simmered down at all.
Monday, a year to the day that Brown was killed, was another dark day in the city’s history after police shot and critically injured 18-year-old Tyrone Harris Jr. Now authorities have released the surveillance footage of the incident, and the fact that Harris can be seen wielding a firearm will do little to curb the ever-growing animosity aimed at local law enforcement. His father called the authorities’ description of the events “a bunch of lies,” and said two girls who were with his son told him that he was unarmed.
Prosecutors charged Harris on Monday with 10 felonies, including four counts of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer. He remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Protests have continued throughout the week with these pictures below summing up the mood.
