When you’re worth in the vicinity of R1,2 billion I expect you would sleep like a baby, none of those ‘paying the bills’ kind of worries.
You’ll sleep like a log though when robbers pump anaesthetic gas into the Saint Tropez villa where you’re staying, a dos sound enough to see thieves make off with goods worth around R6 million.
Jenson Button, Formula One racer and hubby to the delightful Jessica Michibata, was the unfortunate victim of a pretty ingenious robbery in the south of France. This below from IBT:
A spokesman for Button [said] “two men broke into the property whilst they all slept and stole a number of items of jewellery including, most upsettingly, Jessica’s engagement ring.
“The police have indicated that this has become a growing problem in the region with perpetrators going so far as to gas their proposed victims through the air conditioning units before breaking in.
“Whilst unharmed, everyone involved is unsurprisingly shaken by the events.”
Another source close to the couple says that they are sure this is what occurred given how it all played out:
“Jenson is convinced that’s what happened too. The burglars were in the same room as him and Jessica, rifling through all their drawers. But they weren’t disturbed at all because the effects of the gas gives the burglars free reign.
“It was the same for their three other friends — they were all completely out of it. The first they were aware was when they woke up groggy the next morning and realised the house had been turned upside down”.
The theft was a horrid end to what had been a rather happy holiday, Michibata posting this smiley snap to Instagram earlier in the week.
Next time I wake up groggy with no memory and my possessions missing I’m also going to claim I was gassed, tends to go down better than blaming those last few rounds of shots.
