Here in the Cape we love to tell our visitors that we offer a real treat for foodies from around the world. We’re not alone in thinking that, you’ll find many of the folks leaving here delighted with the tucker they have wolfed down on our shores.
Take for example the folks at international travel site Fodors, bigging up our local restaurants with this intro:
Cape Town is the culinary capital of South Africa and quite possibly the continent. It certainly has the best restaurants in southern Africa. Nowhere else in the country is the populace so discerning about food, and nowhere else is there such a wide selection of high-quality restaurants.
Thanks guys, we love having our egos stroked. The thing is we might deliver on certain fronts, but if you ask those in the know we are rather far behind when it comes to making decent sushi.
Masterchef judge Peter Goffe-Wood has recently launched a show on 2OV Radio with our own Aimee called ‘The What The Food’ show, which you can listen to on the first Wednesday of each month between 14:30 and 15:30. In yesterday’s inaugural show the renowned critic had some less than stellar remarks regarding sushi restaurants here at home, so rather than paraphrase his words you can listen to this quick 2 minute clip for yourself.
Ouch, that will be pretty hard to stomach for many of Cape Town’s sushi hotspots. We like the honesty though, here’s hoping the firebrand critic is in similar form for his upcoming shows.
Check out the details of his show HERE, one highlight being the chance for listeners to submit their recipes and have their home cooking critiqued. Best of luck guys, if you intend to make sushi I suggest you do a good job.
