Keep your windows closed:

This incident below received much publicity and eventually resulted in the leopard being put down. Whilst it is difficult to lay blame at the ranger’s door it is a reminder that we should exercise caution regarding having our windows open.

Lock your doors:

It seems strange that we will insist on locking our doors when driving through what we deem a dodgy area, then drive around happily like a ready-made meal in a tin can when in areas where predators occur.

Never roam to close to the water’s edge:

If you’re familiar with the bush you’ll be well aware that both crocodiles and hippos rank amongst Africa’s top killers. Where possible try and avoid skirting too close to the water’s edge to avoid the chances of an unwanted encounter.

Approach the Big 5 cautiously:

They’re called the Big 5 for a reason, you know, and whilst they will generally try and avoid getting up close and personal with tourists that isn’t always the case.

Do not provoke the animals:

Now you would think this one goes without saying but it often pays to keep your distance when in a vehicle. You never know what rub a rhino up the wrong way…
